DUBLIN'S famous Red Cow Hotel owner Tom Moran's condition in hospital in Spain is improving, following the severe head injury he sustained last month, according to his family.
Speaking to The Irish Post today, Mr Moran’s son Tommy said his father was "making progress".
The well-known businessman, who owned several hotels in Britain before selling them in a multimillion pound deal in 2015, was attending a wedding in the Costa Del Sol area when he fell ill.
Mr Moran Jnr and his young family are believed to have been based in the area since his accident in early June, while Mr Moran receives round-the-clock care at a hospital in Malaga.
A source close to the family has confirmed Mr Moran remains in a coma but the family has reason for optimism since the 66-year-old showed signs of being able to recognise his wife Sheila on a recent visit.
If his condition continues to improve, the family are hoping they will be able to fly him home to Ireland soon where he will be able to continue his recovery.
Moran began his career in London in the 1970s where he and his wife Sheila managed a number of pubs.
The couple took over London’s renowned Crown pub in Cricklewood in 1998, developing the adjacent Crown Moran Hotel, which remains a popular venue for the Irish diaspora in London.
In 2008, the Moran Group purchased Bewley’s Hotels, a group that employs around 1,200 people.
The hotels were sold in a €455m (£378.75m) deal with Dalata last year but Mr Moran kept Moran’s Red Cow Hotel at Newland’s Cross in Dublin as part of the transaction.
