*Warning - distressing footage
SHOCKING footage has emerged of a man being attacked with a hurley in a shop in Co. Cork.
A male in his 20s was taken to hospital after sustaining injuries following the assault, which happened on Thursday morning in Blarney.
In the video, which has been doing the rounds on social media, two men can be seen viciously beating and kicking the victim, before one grabs a hurley and starts to smash him with it, as frightening onlookers flee the busy shop.
At one point, a child appears in front of the camera and is encouraged to kick the downed individual.
Gardai have opened an investigation into the incident and have released a statement yesterday saying: "Gardai are investigating an assault that occurred at a filling station in Blarney, Cork this morning., Thursday 16 April at approximately 10.30am.
"A male in his 20s was taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
Rumours are circling that the incident is related to a number of 'call-out' videos posted by rival traveller groups.
