A security alert has emerged in Derry this evening.
Homes have been evacuated and PSNI Ammunition Technical Officers have been called to a scene just off Rossdowney Road in the Waterside area of Derry city.
DUP MLA Gary Middleton was the first at the scene of the incident and tweeted this image of the PSNI bomb disposal officers at the scene where factory workers have been told not to leave the premises while nearby homes have been evacuated.

Speaking to local news sources at the scene, Middleton said: "Unfortunately it has caused significant disruption already with local school children about to arrive home to their properties and they won’t be able to access those. So obviously, it is a deeply distressing time for the local community."
Police confirmed Rossdowney Road had been closed to allow them to deal with the security alert at Montgomery Close, adding there were currently no further details.
