A HEROIC garda went above and beyond the line of duty to rescue a dog who was found cowering near the cliffs of Ardmore with a broken paw.
Garda O’Callaghan from Ardmore carried the stricken canine over a kilometre to safety after answering a call from three people who came across the pained pup during a walk.
Bailey had somehow managed to break his paw while adventuring along the coast and would have surely perished were it not for the Garda’s efforts.
Garda O’Callaghan’s heroics should not be understated either given that Bailey is a Labrador by breed and not exactly on the light side, either.

Gda O Callaghan carried him about a km back to the car & onto the vets. Thankfully "Bailey" is on the mend & back home.#Garda #PawPatrol pic.twitter.com/pGiuFAaBYF— Garda Info (@gardainfo) July 16, 2019
The heart-warming rescue was chronicled on Twitter, with many quick to praise Garda O’Callaghan’s impressive, no-nonsense, hands-on approach to bringing Bailey to safety.
“Fantastic and caring Garda Callaghan – you went beyond the call of duty,” one follower wrote. “Bailey is one lucky dog. Thank you for your immense kindness.”
“Fair play to him… Bailey is no lightweight either!” another chimed in with.
The Gardai also took the time to thank the three walkers who first contacted them after spotting Bailey - Naoive, Oisin and Jean – who ended up taking the photo of Garda O’Callaghan’s impressive efforts.
It’s a story that is sure to give plenty of paws for thought.
