THE heartbroken classmates of Karen Buckley have come together to raise money for her devastated family.
Ms Buckley’s friends from the University of Limerick, where she studied nursing, have launched an online fundraiser to help her family while they are in Glasgow.
Since last night, the online fundraiser has received more than a thousand donations, bringing the total up to almost £40,000.
The money will go towards upkeep on the Buckley family farm while they are away, as well as accommodation, travel and food expenses while they are in Scotland.
Police in Glasgow discovered a body yesterday evening, believed to be that of the 24-year-old occupational therapy student.
The fund will provide financial relief for the Buckley family, who left their Co. Cork farm behind on Tuesday to travel to Scotland, as the search escalated.
The Consulate General in Scotland has been providing assistance to the Buckley family as they come to terms with the tragedy.
Hundreds of messages of condolences have also been posted for Ms Buckley and her family.
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old man who was arrested and detained in connection with Ms Buckley’s death will appear before Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow.
The 24-hour fundraiser will close tonight at 9.30pm.
