Half a million British condoms bound for Ireland

A SHIPMENT of half a million British condoms is bound for Ireland, as part of the National Condom Project (NCP).

Ireland’s Health Service Executive (HSE) yesterday confirmed that British firm LTC Healthcare secured the contract to supply 500,000 condoms to Ireland as part of the project.

The HSE-branded condoms, along with 200,000 sachets of water-based and paraben-free lubricant will be distributed as part of the project which aims to support existing crisis pregnancy programmes run by the HSE, as well as promotion of sexual health and well-being.

The condoms are expected to arrive in a Waterford holding facility by the end of September – with a view to begin the rollout through statutory agencies and bodies through the website, healthpromotion.ie.

The new strategy is the first time that a national approach has been developed to address sexual health and well-being and to reduce negative health outcomes, including in the specific area of HIV.

The HSE has not disclosed the cost of the programme.
