Grieving mother sinks into mud at cemetery while visiting baby son's grave

A NORTHERN Irish woman was close to sinking into a patch of mud while visiting the grave of her young son this Christmas.

In Donaghadee in Co. Down, Michelle Marshall was visiting the grave of her baby son who tragically passed away but was left stuck in mud at the cemetery.

According to BBC, it was at the Ballyvester Cemetry that the grieving mum was paying her respects when she became fixed in the mud, sand and water.

The woman was unable to free herself and had to be pulled out by her sister aided by another person, losing her shoes in the process.

Marshall said her visit was totally disrupted and was left devastated at the state of the cemetery that holds the remains of her son: "You can't imagine what it feels like to go to your baby son's grave to be faced with this on his birthday. I am completely broken-hearted."

The cemetery reportedly has a reputation for being sludgy and messy, due to both a flooding problem and poor drainage system which plagues visitors wishing to pay their respects.

The local council is said to be installing new drains to tackle the problem, with work due to begin in Spring or Summer 2018.
