THE Aisling Return to Ireland Project has received a donation of nearly £10,000 thanks to a charity event hosted by Irish medical professionals working in London.
Charity co-ordinator Alex McDonnell was in the city this month to accept a cheque for £9,250 from the organisers of the Green Tie Ball – an evening of dinner, dance and music held at The Park Plaza Riverbank hotel in London last October.
Organised by a dedicated group of Irish medical professionals working in the capital, the event offers a chance to “fundraise among the fortunate London Irish community to care for the less fortunate Irish who live in Britain,” its founders confirmed when choosing Aisling as their 2014 beneficiary.
Opened by Irish Ambassador Dan Mulhall, Aisling’s Mr McDonnell also made a speech at the event, before dinner was served and guests enjoyed Irish Dancing from Olivia and Louis Cuddy and a set by comedian Barry Murphy, who flew in especially from Dublin for the occasion.
Fundraising on the night saw the event raise close to £10,000 in charity cash, which Green Tie Ball committee members Orla O’Brien and Dr Dermot O’Flynn presented to Mr McDonnell at the Park Plaza Riverbank hotel this month.
