'Gerry was a proud Irish man' - grandfather dies after roundabout crash in Wales

THE family of a man who died after a crash on a roundabout have paid tribute to a 'devoted husband and good family man'.

Patrick Gerrald Hughes, who was known as Gerry, died at Royal Gwent Hospital after he was injured in a crash on January 26.

Police enquiries are still on-going over the incident at the Pont Ebbw Roundabout near Tredegar Park in Newport.

Mr Hughes, a rugby fan, was living in the Llangadog community in Carmarthenshire.

The crash took place at 4.25pm after a car hit a pedestrian causing serious injuries.

Paying tribute to Mr Hughes, his family said: “Gerry was a proud Irish man who loved rugby. He was a devoted husband to Frances, dad and grandad, a good family man.

“We would like to thank the emergency services and staff at the Royal Gwent Hospital who looked after Gerry.”

Police have asked anyone with information about the crash to call 101 and quote log number  379 26/01/18.
