Gardaí stop driver for laughable attempt at fake insurance disc

THEY SAY God loves a trier...

Gardaí in Limerick have seized a car and taken legal action against the driver following the discovery of the world's worst attempt at a counterfeit insurance disc.

In what looks like something from a child's art project-- and a very boring, half-arsed one at that-- one man in Limerick decided to take the matter of not having insurance into his own, artistically untalented hands.

Southern Region Gardaí took to Facebook to share the breathtakingly nonchalant attempt at fraud, where they wrote:

"Gardaí from Unit D Henry Street, stopped a car during a #COVID19 patrol in #Limerick City for displaying this homemade “insurance disc”.

"Enquiries revealed the driver was not insured.

"The car was seized and the driver will be receiving a not so homemade summons to appear in court."

With so much going on in such few sentences, it's hard to find just one thing to focus on-- but the fact that "enquiries" revealed the driver had no insurance, rather than the simple fact that this exists definitely raises some questions.

Writing under the original Facebook post, one person put this question to the Gardaí, looking, hopefully, for clarity-- and not because they wanted to try it out themselves.

A Garda spokesperson replied to the commenter and said "if the enquiries revealed that the care was insured (which it wasn't) they would be given 10 days to produce documents at a Garda Station of their choice."

"It's also an offence to fail to display a valid insurance disc."

You have to hand it to the driver for chancing his arm, at least-- although it's likely the judge won't go easy on him just for the sheer hilarity of the situation when he gets his "not so homemade" summons to court.
