GARDAÍ in Dublin got a surprise when they stopped a driver only to discover he is serving a 40-year driving ban.
The Dublin Metropolitan Region Roads Policing unit said the car turned away from a checkpoint in the suburb of Bluebell.
When they caught up with the silver Opel, it turned out the driver was serving a staggering 40-year ban.

The driver was arrested and is now due in court, while his car was seized.
Meanwhile in Naas on Friday, gardaí stopped a driver who had “showed his creative side by making his own insurance disc”.
Gardaí shared details of the stop on Twitter, adding that the vehicle was seized for having no insurance, tax or NCT.
The only thing the driver will be making now is his way to court.
