The alleged incident occurred on Mount Argus Road in Harold’s Cross, Dublin 8 between 5am and 5.30am on Sunday, May 20.

The suspect met the victim near a bookmakers on Grafton Street, according to Gardaí.

They walked together on the left-hand side of the road onto Dame Street, continuing on to Christchurch and onto Clanbrassil Street towards the canal over Harold’s Cross Bridge.

The man is then alleged to have pinned the woman to a car, groped and digitally penetrated her on Mount Argus Road.

The victim, who comes from the Caribbean, ran away when a couple entered the road.

'Spanish speaking'

Gardaí have launched an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

A Garda spokeswoman said: “At some time between 5am and 5.30am the injured party and a male were walking out from town through Harold’s Cross onto Mount Argus Road.

“At some stage along Mount Argus Road the male pinned the woman to a car and sexually assaulted the female, he stopped when a couple approached and the injured party ran away.

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and in particular this couple who saw and spoke to the male and the injured party who were standing near a car that was parked on Mount Argus Rd near Laurence Court."
