A PAIR of gardai put on quite the show in Cork this week while making sure an elderly local resident enjoyed a birthday to remember.
With birthdays across Ireland proving largely muted affairs at present, Inspector McPolin and Sergeant O'Shea from Mayfield decided to do something special for one 69-year-man living through lockdown over in Cope.
Eager to put on a show for the locals, the pair teamed up for a warm rendition of the Irish folk favourite ‘Mount Massey the Flower of Macroom.’
A familiar ditty in these parts, the pair many have only had time to perform one verse but it went down a storm nonetheless, with people across the local community coming out to hear the pair.
And while the two officers weren’t able to complete the song’s many verses, they nevertheless got a rapturous response.

Part of the Gardai’s continued efforts to protect and unite communities throughout Ireland during these uncertain times, it wouldn’t be a massive shock to see the pair brought back for an encore or two over the next few weeks.
In the meantime, fans will just have to make do with their stirring efforts in the above video, which was posted on Garda Info this week.
