AN GARDA SÍOCHÁNA had to shut down a charity ball in Co. Tipperary due to a number of issues.
Hundreds of teenagers arrived at Kilcoran Hotel Lodge in Tipperary but were turned away as their tickets were found as faulty.
The ball was organised by a few local teenagers to raise money for charity before the night went awry.
Many turned up with no tickets but still expected to be let into the venue.
Some attendees printed fake tickets to gain access to the event and even brought extra to sell on at the venue.
It's said the event was due to hold maximum 320 people but sources say that nearly 600 teenagers arrived either drunk or under the influence.
The doors of the hotel were closed when the hotel reached its total capacity but some teenagers tried to break in, using shoes and other items to try to break down doors, with two windows smashed also.
According to The Sun, manager at the hotel Miro Jezovica said many attendees were drunk: "On the night, the concern was that there was too many people… and too many of the kids were drinking a lot.
Mr Jezovica said it was 25 minutes after the event started at 8 pm when he decided to cancel the event and send attendees home, but he was met with resistance: "When I said ‘stop’, no more people, after 350 people, they started breaking in. With shoes and whatever they had. The guards were called because they needed to help us until the busses came back."
Gardaí in Tipperary arrived at the scene to clear the area and make sure all teenagers left the premises.
No arrests were made in the process.
