THE Garda Representative Association has called for all officers to be armed with tasers in future.
The call for tasers comes after officer Aidan Flanagan had to retire after sustaining injuries in the line of work.
Mr Flanagan was awarded €1.16 in damages after being kicked in the back while on duty.
Now, the GRA has called for tasers to be mandatory in order to enhance protection for officers.
A statement on their Twitter page read: “GDA Aidan Flanagan today received €1.16m for an injury received at work – he was attacked while effecting an arrest. Every day, frontline members put their physical and mental health on the line for all our protection. Let us now protect them. Arm all with tasers.”
