AN elderly man was rushed to hospital earlier today following a collision with a truck.
The man was hit by the vehicle at approximately 7 am on Tuesday morning and was taken to Tullamore hospital for treatment of his injuries.
At the time of the incident, the road where the collision happened part of the N62 Birr to Athlone Road was closed in both directions.
Local Gardaí sealed off the scene of the incident for a forensic examination and were appealing for witnesses.
According to the Offaly Express, the man has sadly passed away in hospital at the age of 70.
The driver of the truck has remained unharmed and uninjured however Gardaí have now widened and intensified the search for witnesses.
Anyone who was around the area between7 am and 7.20am is being urged to contact Birr Garda Station should they have any information.
