Gardaí appeal for information following 'unexplained death' of man found dead in Cork

GARDAÍ HAVE launched an appeal for information following the discovery of a man's body in Cork city.

Gardaí are examining all circumstances surrounding the 'unexplained death' of the man, who has been named as 35-year-old Gary Dineen.

On 12 August, Mr Dineen's body was found at Merchant's Quay Car Park on the Parnell Place side shortly after 11.30 in the morning.

The scene was preserved and shortly thereafter underwent a technical examination, and a post-mortem was performed on Mr Dineen.

While Gardaí have not revealed the results of the post-mortem, they have launched an investigation into his death and are particularly looking to speak with the following people:

  • Anyone who was with Mr Dineen between Saturday, 8 August and Wednesday 12 August
  • Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious or unusual in Merchant Quay Car Park and the surrounding area from 8 August to 12 August
  • Anybody who used the Merchant Quay Car Park between 8 and 12 August and may have noticed something unusual, particularly any motorists with dash cam footage of the car park

It is believed Mr Dineen may have been dead for around two days before his body was discovered.

Anyone with any informmation which could assist the investigation is urged to contact Gardaí at Briedwell Garda Station on 021 494 3330, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

May he rest in peace.
