Galway listed in top 10 places to visit in 2020

GALWAY has been listed as one of the world's top destinations to visit in 2020.

The coastal Irish city made a list compiled by Buzzfeed which sought to name some of the very best places to travel to this year, no matter your budget, number of companions or reasons for jetting off.

Galway was listed as the best destination for history buffs, and it's hardly a surprise for anyone who's been there.

Sure, it's not blessed with the grandiose monuments of Athens or the story-book-inspiring streets of London, but history and culture are rife there, in its stone buildings, old bridges, and in its folklore and tales of old (ask about the Tribes of Galway).

Named European Capital of Culture in fact for 2020, the city blends art, excitement, antiquity and good old Irish friendliness to establish itself as one of the world's understated must-trys.

The list recommends a visit to the 18th century Eyre Square "for a slice of history" as well as providing you with a bunch of accommodation recommendations.

BBC Good Food magazine also listed Galway as one of the top destinations for 'foodies' to visit this year, citing the town being officially named a European Region of Gastronomy in recognition of its blossoming culinary credentials.

It was also named on CNN Travel's 'must-visit' list for 2020.

They can't all be barking up the wrong tree can they? Maybe you should come and visit.

In case you're interested in more than just the Irish element, other destination to make the cut include Copenhagen in Denmark, Shikoku Island in Japan, Paraty in Brazil, Marrakech in Morocco, San Jose in Costa Rica, Kauai, Hawaii in USA, St Petersburg in Russia, Ras Al Khaimah in UAE and Portland, Maine in USA
