THE PSNI are investigating the knife-point robbery of a Derry GAA club during their weekly bingo session on Monday night.
Watty Graham’s GAC Glen were targeted at around 8.45pm, the usual time a club member can be found preparing the takings from bingo ticket sales near the entrance of the clubhouse at Tirkane Road in Maghera.
Security cameras were in operation and the PSNI are understood to be studying footage of the incident, which took place on the outskirts of Maghera.
Club chairman Sean Keane was present on the night of the robbery and believes the criminals, who took off with a 'substantial' amount of money, were well primed for a planned attack.
“They obviously had their homework done,” he told The Irish News. “We have been running bingo for 30 years and believe it or not that is the first heist there has been.”
