The funeral of a Galway pensioner found dead in a London park after being missing for two weeks will take place next week.
Patrick Connelly, 83, from Nunhead in Peckham, London, had been missing from his home since June 7.
His body was found last week in Peckham Rye Park.
His funeral will take place at St Thomas Apostle Church, 81 Evelina Road, Nunhead, London SE15 3HL on Thursday, July 5 at 11.30am, followed by burial at Nunhead Cemetary, where he will be laid to rest beside his late wife Bridie Connelly.
Daughter Eileen Bowley said: "Dad's body was found in Peckham Rye Park. Although it is a very sad ending for us, he has been found and we can lay him to rest.
"As a family, we are very grateful we are for the massive support during the last few weeks.
"We are amazed at the kindness of so many people who either didn't know dad or us, but were still willing to help in any way to finding him.
"It is good to know that when all we often hear is bad news, that the kindness and genorisity still remains in people."
Patrick was a great grandfather originally from Pooreen in Inverin but who had lived in the capital for many years.
Describing her dad as a true family man, Eileen added: “He kept himself to himself. He used to go to mass at St Thomas The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, on Evelina Road, do a bit of shopping.
"As a person he is quite a quiet man but he’s got a great sense of humour. He was a family man. He was devoted to his family, that was his hobby, that was his life really. He never talked badly of anyone.”
