OVER €80,000 has been raised for the family of murdered student Jastine Valdez in just one day.
The GoFundMe page for the 24-year-old from Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, was set up hours after her body was discovered on a disused golf course in south Dublin.
The page was set up to “facilitate all of those who wish to offer support and sympathy to the family of Jastine Valdez to help them in the weeks and months ahead.”
Having been shared on social media Monday evening, the target of €10,000 was exceeded within the first few hours of the page’s existence.
Currently, it stands at €88,194.
The page clearly states that the funds will be documented and open to the public and that a “Dublin based solicitor has offered to oversee and audit (pro bono) the account and will verify all funds are paid directly to the Valdez family”.
Originally from the Philippines, Jastine Valdez was abducted near her home on Saturday evening and strangled to death.
Her suspected killer, 40-year-old father of two Mark Hennessy from Bray, Co Wicklow, was shot dead in a stand-off with gardai on Sunday evening in a car park in Cherrytown, Co Wicklow.
Last night, hundreds gathered in the town of Enniskerry to pay tribute to Ms Valdez.
