Fun run will honour Ann Maguire just days before the anniversary of her death

MORE THAN 2,000 school children are expected to take part in a fun run being held in honour of tragic teacher Ann Maguire this week, just days before the anniversary of her death.

The 61-year-old was just months away from retirement when she was fatally stabbed by a student on April 28 last year, while teaching a class at Corpus Christie Catholic College in Leeds.

Her husband Don, who organised this week’s fundraising event, will lead the fun run – which will include students from the popular teacher’s former school – which he claims “will reflect Ann’s spirit”.

All funds raised at the event, which takes place at St Theresa’s Catholic Primary School in Leeds at 1.30pm on Friday, April 24, will go to the Ann Maguire Arts Education Fund.

More than £81,000 has already been raised through the Fund, which was set up in memory of the mother of two, whose own parents hailed from Co. Mayo, to provide bursaries and funding for the development of young people through arts education.
