Fully vaccinated people are not allowed to 'do what they like' - WHO says

THE World Health Organization (WHO) says that people who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 aren't allowed to simply do whatever they want.

Dr Margaret Harris of the WHO urged everyone to continue following all public health guidelines wherever possible, regardless of whether you've been vaccinated or not, in order to protect others.

"We don't know whether they stop transmission from person to person and that is important because people think 'I'm vaccinated, I can do what I like,' and that is not that case," Dr Harris said.

"You have to keep up the public health and social measures just in case."

The message will come as a blow to anyone hoping to enjoy life post-lockdown, as Ireland edges towards the end of what will hopefully be the country's last.

While there's no proof that fully vaccinated individuals can still spread the virus, experts are concerned that encouraging people to flout the rules before its's safe to could lead to further outbreaks, and with the dangers of new variants developing, the WHO are advising against any unnecessary relaxations.

Last week, Ireland officially administered its two millionth Covid-19 vaccine.

Over the past few weeks, lockdown restrictions have been eased or lifted across the country, allowing people greater freedoms around travel, visiting friends and family, and next month, pubs will be back on the cards.
