Donald Trump launches new website 'From the Desk of Donald J. Trump' to get around social media ban

DONALD TRUMP has launched a new communications platform that could allow the former US President to circumvent his bans from Twitter and Facebook.

From the Desk of Donald J. Trump is not a social media platform in the strictest sense of the word, but rather a blog-style website where only he can upload content.

Users can not interact directly with Trump on the webpage, however, they can repost statements made on the site to Facebook and Twitter.

The ex-President was suspended from both platforms amid accusations he incited the riots witnessed in Washington D.C. earlier this year.

Facebook’s Oversight Board are due to announce this week whether Trump will be permanently banned from Facebook and Instagram.

The site, www.DonaldJTrump.com/desk, was launched with a glossy promotional video featuring Trump’s new home in Mar-a-Lago.

In the clip, the new blog is described as a “beacon of freedom” in a time of “lies and silence”.

The site invites users to sign up for alerts. More tellingly, users are also directed to a page asking for campaign donations in the biggest hint yet that he could be plotting another run for office.

Trump spokesman and advisor Jason Miller has meanwhile suggested that plans are still afoot for a social media platform designed for the former Apprentice star's followers.

“President Trump’s website is a great resource to find his latest statements and highlights from his first term in office, but this is not a new social media platform," he said.

"We’ll have additional information coming on that front in the very near future.”

Neither Facebook nor Twitter have yet to comment on the new website.

Trump dropped another major hint during an interview with conservative commentator Candace Owens for her Daily Wire talk show.

Asked about whether he would run in 2024, Trump said: “'The answer is, I'm absolutely enthused. I look forward to doing an announcement at the right time.”

“As you know, it's really early. But I think people are going to be very, very happy when I make a certain announcement.”

Trump is already preparing to recommence the MAGA rallies that became a key cornerstone of his two previous Presidential election campaigns.

The ex-President is reportedly keen to restart the rallies once the 2022 midterms conclude.

He is eager to move forward with the events despite continued concerns over the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
