THE Irish Naval Service has detained a French trawler off the coast of Cork for an alleged breach of fishing regulations.
Yesterday the Naval Service vessel Lé George Bernard Shaw, belonging to the Irish Defence Forces, detained the French registered fishing vessel Miss Jacqueline 180 nautical miles west of Mizen Head.
The detention was in relation to an alleged breach of fishing regulations.
The vessel was escorted to Castletownbere, Co. Cork, where it was handed over to the Gardaí.
This is the fourth vessel detained by the Naval Service in 2020.
A spokesperson said: “The Defence Forces Naval Service conducts at-sea fishery inspections in line with the service level agreement with the Sea Fishery Protection Authority, as part of its delivery of government services to the State.”
