A WOMAN has tragically died following a collision involving a stolen lorry that crashed into a house.
The female pedestrian, aged in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four people were arrested following the incident in the Brierley area of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England.
Three people who were injured in the incident were taken to the major trauma unit at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital.
Stolen vehicle
At around 1.40pm on Friday, a HGV, previously reported as stolen, was travelling along Common Lane, towards Grimethorpe, when an officer in a marked patrol car, travelling in the opposite direction, turned around to follow the vehicle.
The HGV then travelled on to Park View, where it was in collision with the female pedestrian.
The vehicle then hit two parked cars before colliding with a house on the road and coming to a stop.
While formal identification has not yet taken place, the woman’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Arrests
The four men arrested – including the driver, who suffered minor injuries – remain in police custody
A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Police have remained in the area while enquiries are carried out.
