Former barmaid who ‘lived life to the full’ killed in fire at Cyprus apartment

A YOUNG woman who was a popular barmaid at an Irish pub in Birmingham has died following a fire at her flat in Cyprus.

Natasha Sarah Gadd, who previously worked at the Adam and Eve pub in Digbeth, Birmingham’s Irish quarter, was found dead at the property in the holiday resort of Panera in Paralimni on Tuesday night, May 15, according to local police.

The 37-year-old’s body was discovered after friends notified the authorities, at approximately 6pm, having not heard from her all day.

Firefighters broke the woman’s apartment door down to gain access to the property, which was reportedly filled with smoke.

Spokesperson for the Cyprus fire service, Andreas Kettis has said that they believe the source of the smoke was an electric cooker on which other electric appliances had been placed.

Family member Stacey Gadd has since set up a Go Fund Me fundraising page to help cover the cost of repatriating Natasha’s body, which has already raised more than £4,600.

“After a tragic accident in Cyprus I am trying to raise money to bring Tash home and help with the repatriation costs,” she said.

“She was a warm, happy and loyal person who touched the hearts of many."

She added: “This whole situation just doesn’t seem real at the minute and is such a sad end for such a wonderful person.”

Friends of the young woman have paid tribute on the fundraising page.

Mark Shrimpling, who worked with Natasha at the Adam and Eve pub, said “sleep tight our beautiful little Chinese friend.

"Your infectious smile will never leave us. Always a part of the Adam and Eve family.”

Former school friend Jodie Drust said: “What I would give to go back to the days when I used to knock on for u to walk to school. U were taken way too soon but u lived ur life to the fullest. Was caring, fun, strong, brave and didn't give a shit. Still so shocked. Fly with the angels Tash.”

And Andrew Shaw added: “If there was any lady that lived life to the full, as they say dance as it no one were watching, sing as if no one were listening, let be everyday as if it were your last.”

Cyprus police say foul play has been ruled out, but confirmed an investigation is underway, with smoke inhalation suspected as the cause of death.

In an update post on the Go Fund Me page made last night, Stacey Gadd thanked those who have donated to the fund.

“Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all money that has been raised and continuing to be raised, every bit will help towards bringing Tash home, and making sure she gets the send off she deserves,” she said.
