Former Anglo Irish Bank boss David Drumm employed as cleaner on first day at Mountjoy Prison

DISGRACED Anglo Irish boss David Drumm is working as a cleaner in the basement of Mountjoy Prison, just a day after being sentenced to six years behind bars.

The banker was found guilty earlier this month of authorising a €7.2 billion conspiracy to defraud and of false accounting while operating as boss of Anglo Irish bank.

Today, on his first day in the prison, the 51-year-old was given the job of cleaning the landing on C Base in the north Dublin prison.

It looks likely he will remain in Mountjoy for much of the duration of his term.

There were early reports he could be moved to Midlands Prison in Portlaoise, but that turned out to not be the case.

His sentence will most likely be reduced to four years with remission and time served in the US.

A prison source - who spoke to the Irish Examiner - described him as an “ideal candidate” for the job.

The position will give Drumm more out-of-cell time than other prisoners, but will also bring him into more contact with other inmates.
