BOXER Floyd Mayweather has waded into the Conor McGregor bus attack controversy by saying the Irish fighter should behave like a ‘gentleman’.
McGregor was bailed in New York on Friday after being charged with assault and criminal mischief by the NYPD over the attack on a bus at a UFC press conference a day earlier.
Now Mayweather – who defeated McGregor in a boxing match last August – has had his say on the incident.
“I feel that when you have reached such high status, you have to carry yourself in a classy way,” Mayweather told a ringside reporter during a Showtime broadcast on Saturday, according to the Independent.
“Outside the ring, you have to carry yourself as a gentleman.”
The dig at McGregor harks back to the increasingly volatile build-up to the pair's fight last August.
However the comments are surprising, given Mayweather has faced domestic violence charges several times in the past.
The most recent case was in 2011, when he pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanour battery domestic violence following an incident involving the mother of his children.
He was sentenced to 90 days in jail and released after 60 days.
McGregor meanwhile has been allowed to return to Ireland following his hearing at Kings County Criminal Court in Brooklyn.
The fighter must return to America in June for sentencing.
