FIVE men have been arrested and another is being sought over the trafficking of a tonne of cocaine with a street value of over £100million that was seized off the south-west coast of Ireland.
The Irish Naval service intercepted the shipment, on the yacht Makayabella, around 300 miles from the Cork coast on Tuesday.
The operation involved Irish, French, Venezuelan authorities along with Britain's National Crime Agency.
Three men on board, all British nationals from the West Yorkshire area, were detained and taken to the Irish mainland for questioning.
Garda have confirmed to The Irish Post that the three suspects being held in Ireland are aged 70, 34 and 28.
Earlier today, a 47-year-old man from Leeds was also arrested by the National Crime Agency and is now being questioned at a police station in West Yorkshire.
While yesterday a 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to import class A drugs at an address in Leeds.
He was later bailed pending further enquiries.
One other individual from West Yorkshire is still wanted in connection with the investigation.
The passage along the south-west coast of Ireland has been a regular route in recent times for drugs smugglers attempting to bring shipments from South America and Africa into Europe.
