THE first person to die from coronavirus in the UK has been confirmed this evening.
The Royal Berkshire NHS Trust released on statement on Thursday confirming that a patient who had previously tested positive for COVID-19 had passed away after being confirmed with the virus last night.
It's been revealed that the patient had "underlying health conditions" and had been "in and out of hospital" for reasons unrelated to coronavirus.
The Royal Berkshire Trust's statement read: "Sadly, we can confirm that an older patient with underlying health conditions has died.
"The patient has previously been in and out of hospital for non-coronavirus reasons, but on this occasion was admitted and last night tested positive for coronavirus.
"The family has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. We will not be commenting further and ask that everybody respects the family’s privacy."
116 people have tested positive for the virus in the UK so far, three of which live in Northern Ireland.
There have been 105 confirmed cases in England, six in Scotland and three in Wales.
