The man murdered in north Belfast on Thursday night has been named.
Robert Edward Joseph Molloy Jones, 30, was fatally injured in an attack in the Parkmount Street area of the city shortly after 9pm.
Paramedics called police to the scene and the father-of-one was rushed to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police have been granted extra time to question a 21-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday.
The victim Mr Jones had been living close to where he died but was originally from Lurgan in Co. Armagh.
Detectives have not yet commented on what the motive for his killing may have been.
'Great shock'
Det Ch Insp Pete Montgomery appealed for witness who were in the area of Parkmount Street or Seaview Close between 8pm and 9.30pm on Thursday, June 28 to contact police.
"The community in the local area may hold vital information which could help to establish the circumstances surrounding Robert's murder," he said.
"I would like to thank the community for the help they have provided so far and would appeal to those with any information to contact detectives."
North Belfast MP Nigel Dodds urged residents in the local area to fully co-operate with police.
"This has caused great shock in this settled and close-knit community off North Queen Street," the DUP politician said.
"I wish to appeal for full co-operation with the police, in what is now a murder investigation.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with this man’s family and friends at this time of sudden bereavement."
