Family of woman who died in car accident on Christmas Day pay tribute to their "beautiful" mother

THE family of a woman who died after being hit by a car while crossing a road on Christmas Day have paid tribute to their "beautiful" mother.

Sharon Hamnett was crossing Oldham Road in Miles Platting, Manchester on Monday, December 25 when she was involved in a collision with a car.

The 44-year-old was using the pelican crossing close to the junction of Naylor Street at around 9pm when the incident happened.

The driver of the car fail to stop at the scene, but continued driving along Oldham Road.

Ms Hamnett was taken to hospital, where she died a short time later.

Today her children, who don't wish to be named, issued a statement through Greater Manchester Police.

They said: "We can't even put into words how we feel other than complete emptiness, we are absolutely broken."

They added: "We know you are going to guide us in the right direction and make sure we stay strong. We will continue to make you the proudest mum in the world. We love and miss you so much. Rest in paradise beautiful."
