A BELFAST family has appealed for information following the theft of a bag of ashes in their area.
Claire Smallwood gave birth to her daughter Holly on November 13, 2016, and was devastated when she was borne a stillborn.
She and her partner Patrick Mulholland decided to cremate their baby girl's remains to keep her ashes to commemorate her tragic death, however, the ashes have been stolen on December 12th 2017.
At the time of the theft, the grieving mother said it felt like she was losing her daughter "twice".
Talking to The Belfast Telegraph, a Belfast community group found that some of Holly's ashes were in the ownership of Holly's grandmother, with which they went about organising a special present to give to Smallwood.
Stephen Paul of the group Community First said they found a novel way of remembering Holly: "We found out one of the local jewellers did a pendant on a necklace where the ashes can be put in and sealed.
"I went in and met him early in the week and explained what we were doing and he donated the items of jewellery to us.
"We had to make sure it was okay with the family, so we did it through a close friend to make sure everything was okay."
Holly's mother Claire said she was touched by the gift, however the family are still looking for the ashes, more than a year on: "It’s nice that everyone is still thinking of us, but at the end of the day we just want Holly’s ashes back. But it’s nice that people are coming together and thinking of us, it is nice to know."
