*Update August 4: Mr Murphy has since been found safe and well. Thanks to all for sharing.

THE FAMILY of Irishman Melvin 'Ted' Murphy who went missing while visiting London for his daughter's birthday have appealed for information on his whereabouts.

Mr Murphy, originally from Co Armagh, came to London for his daughter's 21st birthday on Saturday, July 30.

He was last seen leaving his daughter's apartment in the Twickenham-Richmond area at 5pm on Sunday evening.

Mr Murphy, who was due to return home to Armagh on Tuesday evening, said he was going to the shop but never returned.

Mr Murphy was wearing a big brown corduroy jacket, knee length, a pair of navy tracksuit bottoms, white runners, and a Celtic jersey and speaks with a Northern Irish accent.

Speaking to The Irish Post, his sister Donna McWilliams said: "He's 5'10'', with a wee bit of weight on him. His hair is shaved close and he has tanned skin.

"He lives in Ireland and was just visiting London for his daughter's birthday."

"He would never do this, he would never go away and just not come back," Ms McWilliams added.

"If anyone sees him, contact the police, or let us know."

Anyone who has seen Melvin Murphy or knows of his whereabouts should contact Metropolitan Police on 101.
