Eyewitnesses describe moment London police gunned down Streatham terror suspect

WITNESSES HAVE described the terrifying moment a suspected terrorist was shot dead by police on a London street.

A man, identified as 20-year-old Sudesh Amman, was killed by armed police after stabbing several people in Streatham, south London, just before 2pm on Sunday, February 2.

Mr Amman was under police surveillance at the time of the attack on Streatham High Road in what police are describing as an “Islamist-related terrorist incident”.

Three people were injured in the attack, but none are in a life-threatening condition.

In the aftermath, several eyewitnesses have come forward to describe the moment police descended on Mr Amman, who was released from prison only a week ago after serving half of a three years and four months sentence for terror offences.

A 45-year-old IT worker who was on a bus passing through Streatham at the fateful moment Mr Amman was killed and asked not to be named described events to the Daily Mirror.

"It looked like somebody stabbed at least one person and then police shot him dead,” he said.

"I saw this man running towards me, then collapse literally dead in front of the bus.

"He was running towards us.

"I could hear three or four shots. The police shot him. He fell to the floor.

"Police surrounded him with guns.

"One kicked like a knife away.

"He had what looked to be a large knife - almost like a machete knife.

"There was quite a lot of hysteria. People on the bus were thinking it's terror related so were wanting to get out and off the bus.

"The bus moved further down and there was another person lying on the ground.

"I'm not sure if the person was shot of if they had been attacked."

His account chimed with that of a 19-year-old student from Streatham, who explained to the Press Association how he witnessed the shooting of Mr Amman first hand.

"I was crossing the road when I saw a man with a machete and silver canisters on his chest being chased by what I assume was an undercover police officer - as they were in civilian clothing,” he said.

"The man was then shot. I think I heard three gun shots but I can't quite remember.

"After that I ran into the library to get to safety."

Scotland Yard said officers have searched addresses in south London and Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire in the wake of the attack.

No further arrests have been made at the time of writing.
