A LIMERICK man who donated vital scuba diving equipment to the rescue of 12 boys trapped in a cave in Thailand is celebrating their successful rescue.
There were celebrations all over the world this afternoon as it was announced that all 12 boys and their football coach had been rescued after spending 18 days trapped underground.
There were special celebrations upon hearing the news in the village of Cappamore, Co Limerick, where a local man had donated specialist diving equipment which was vital to the heroic rescue.
According to the Limerick Leader, Thai officials mounted a global search last week for specialised oxygen tanks with an older model of regulation valve.
A man in Limerick responded to the call out and in a matter of a couple of days his scuba tank regulators were collected from Cappamore and delivered to the rescue mission in rural Thailand.
The owner of the equipment has requested privacy, but a source told the Limerick Leader: “It’s a small world when Cappamore is part of an international rescue effort in Thailand.”
