Elderly man airlifted to hospital after night in freezing car

 

THE Irish man was lost and disoriented in a part of Co. Clare he wasn't aware of, so he was forced to stay in his car overnight.

At approximately 9.30pm on Friday evening, the man called emergency services as he lost his way on the road.

According to The Irish Mirror, the driver is 71 years of age and called Gardaí when he took a wrong turn and became stuck in a ditch.

The driver was travelling from Kilrush to his home when he got confused and disoriented, so turned into a culdesac but became stuck in an unknown place.

Gardaí were assisted by the Irish Coast Guard in a bid to find the elderly man, however, despite contact via the driver's mobile phone, he still couldn't give them a  direct location. Services set off flares to find the man's location however his mobile died at approximately 3.30 am on Saturday morning.

At 4am, following no more signs that the driver could be located, the search was adjourned. At 9am this morning the search found the man in his car at Lackyle South near Labasheeda, Co. Clare.

The driver was assessed by paramedics and flown to University Hospital Limerick where he was deemed to be in a healthy condition despite the freezing temperatures overnight.
