A 10-YEAR-OLD Labrador has been abandoned outside a kennels with a heartbreaking note revealing why it ended up there.
The black dog was found outside Jasmil Kennels in Upchurch, near Sittingbourne in Kent.
According to a note left with the dog by its previous owner, they were forced to get rid of the elderly pet because it "hadn't learnt to be good".
The note said: "Hello, pls can you take me in as my owner has abandoned me after 10 years because I have not learnt to be good, so I have been returned here where he found me.
"Thank you for looking after me, sorry for inconvinance [sic]."
Swale Borough Council is urging anyone with information related to the dog to come forward.
The pet has not been microchipped, making identifying its owners potentially tricky.
"This elderly black Labrador was found tied up to railings at Jasmil Kennels this morning," the local authority's stray dog service tweeted.
"We would very much like to speak to the owner to establish why the dog has been abandoned.
"If you recognise him and can be of any assistance, please contact the council in confidence.
"He will now be taken into our care."
The dog will remain with the service until a new home is found.
A council spokesperson has condemned the actions of the owner: "If an owner is struggling with their dog, this is not the way to deal with it.
"Rehoming is the last option, but this isn't the way to do it, so we would appreciate any information we can get so we can speak to the owner.”
