THE BODY of an Irish man, believed to be in his 80s, was discovered in a drain in Co. Laois on Thursday.
It's thought that the elderly man, understood to be from Portlaoise, had gone missing after going for a walk.
He was found by relatives beside the Manor Hotel, next to the popular Abbeyleix Bog wildlife reserve.
His van was parked near the hotel, next to the entrance of the bog.
Family members had grown worried after the man failed to return home on Wednesday.
His death is being treated as a tragic accident, and initial reports suggest that he likely slipped and fell into the drain during his walk on Wednesday evening.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out today to officially determine the cause of death.
