AN ELDERLY Irish man was tragically killed after the car he was driving crashed into a ditch in Co. Cork.
The man, believed to have been in his 70s, was the only person involved in the single vehicle collision, which occurred in the Taur area of Newmarket.
Paramedics arrived at the scene around 12.20am on Tuesday morning, and sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The body of the victim has been removed and was taken to the morgue at Cork University Hospital, where it will undergo a post mortem examination.
According to a gardai spokesperson, the scene of the accident remains cordoned off while an investigation into the incident continues.
"Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have information, particularly any road users who may have travelled through the area between 12:10am and 12:30am, to contact them at Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111," added the spokesperson.
