Dublin man among hopefuls for top literary award

AN Irishman is among 10 hopefuls battling it out for a €100,000 literary prize in Dublin.

Colum McCann’s TransAtlantic was the only Irish novel to make the cut for the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award shortlist, which was announced today.

Mr McCann is no stranger to the IMPAC Award – having scooped the top prize in 2011 for his novel Let the Great World Spin.

There is a British author, Jim Crace, on the list, as well as writers from Australia, Nigeria, and the US.

Translated novels from Brazil, France and Morocco will also be up for the prize.

2015 marks the IMPAC Award’s 20th anniversary – and it is the world’s most valuable literary award for a single work of fiction published in English.

Speaking of the announcement, Lord Mayor of Dublin, Christy Burke, said:

“This is a list of high quality literature with three novels in translation which might not otherwise be brought to the attention of readers. I am delighted to see a Dubliner’s name included on the list.”

The winner will be announced on June 17.
