HOLD ON to your hats because Dublin is getting its very own white-water rafting attraction.
Plans for the brand-new facility have been given the seal of approval from Councillors.
The new white-water rafting attraction will be built on George’s Dock in the IFSC at a cost of €22 million.
Work on the project is due to commence in 2020 and could be completed in as little as 18 months with a 2021 opening pencilled in.
While Dublin City Council are hoping the new attraction will be a major draw for tourists visiting the region, the facility could prove useful to the city’s emergency services.
Dublin Fire Brigade are one of several services set to use the space as a training facility.
A video depicting the planned attraction was uploaded to YouTube by Smart Docklands.
It lays out the initial design of the new facility, which will see a section of the River Liffey set aside for water sports.
Opposite the CHQ building, a dam of water will be created including rapids, a number of walkways, an amphitheatre style viewing platform.
Jamie Cudden, head of the Smart Cities initiative called the project said: “I think a lot of people are talking about animating the area.
"This water animation strategy brings a lot of life to this.”
“It’s something different as well, and shows the combination of all these things that will be great additions for the area and the local amenities.”
Dublin City Council will provide some of the required €22 million with the remainder of the funding set to come from grants.
