Dublin Fire Brigade tackle huge blaze off Temple Street near Children's Hospital

FIREFIGHTERS IN Dublin tackled a massive blaze in the city yesterday evening as a garage went up in flames.

At approximately 6.30pm, Dublin Fire Brigade received a call about a garage fire just off Temple Street in the city centre close to Temple Street Children's Hospital, the biggest paediatric hospital in the city which cares for over 150,000 children per year.

Four fire engines and the brigade's foam tender were used in order to tackle the blaze, with members of the brigade drafted in from Tara Street, Phibsborough and North Strand to assist with the inferno.

Footage of the fire was captured by a nearby citizen and posted to Twitter, where the extent of the blaze could be seen.

Members of the Dublin Fire Brigade were seen shooting water into an open window of the garage in a built-up area as the sky filled with orange light and thick smoke.

One man responded to the video expressing his gratitude for the brigade's quick response, saying "we think it was less than 5 minutes from the call until the first unit on scene" and congratulating them on a job well done.

It appears the mechanic who owns the garage also lives in the building, but thankfully everyone was accounted for and there were no casualties reported.
