TWENTY two bus drivers in Dublin have become overnight millionaires after their syndicate won Friday's Euromillions jackpot worth an estimated £19m (€22m).
It is understood a handful of the winning Dublin Bus employees of the Europe-wide competition even turned up for work on Monday morning, despite their new found prosperity.
“They are senior men. I’d imagine many of them felt obliged to turn up to work,” said Dublin Bus chief inspector Larry O’Brien.
It's unclear if the drivers will return to work on a full-time basis, although a colleague told The Irish Times he didn't expect the men to retire anytime soon. “If you have two children and you buy them each a house, that’s €600,000 gone straight away,” said the ticket inspector who didn't wish to be named.
"I am delighted for each and every one of them and their families. It is great to see such a large number of our employees sharing in the win. We wish them all the best," added Dublin Bus Chief Executive Ray Coyne.
The 22 member syndicate are each expected to receive over one million euros each.
