THE body of 25-year-old Barry Doherty has been taken back to Ireland where his funeral will take place on Thursday.
Mr Doherty, who was originally from Carndonagh, Co Donegal, was discovered on July 24 in the water in Thornley Dam, Paisley, Scotland a short distance from where he had been living.
He was last seen alive on July 15 in Paisley and reported missing on July 18 after his family became concerned.
Mr Doherty’s 27-year-old sister Cathie, posted regular updates on Facebook while the search for her brother took place.
She wrote last Friday: “It’s with an incredibly heavy heart that I’m letting you all know that our Barry has passed away.”
Ms Doherty confirmed that her father had identified the body.
Scottish police also confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
A football jersey and flowers have been left at the scene in Paisley where the body was recovered. Hundreds of comments from friends in Scotland and Ireland were posted on social media websites.
The remains of the Co. Donegal man were taken back to Ireland today, arriving at Larne Harbour before returning to his hometown.
His funeral Mass will take place on Thursday morning at 11am in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Carndonagh, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.
“Táim chroíbhriste” Ms Doherty said before expressing thanks to those in Paisley and Ireland for their support.
