US PRESIDENT Donald Trump says his health is improving since he began treatment for coronavirus but has admitted the next few days would be “the real test”.
In a video message posted to Twitter, Trump admitted he “was not feeling well” when he first arrived at the Walter Reed Military Medical Centre last Friday.
However, he was “starting to feel good” again after being treated for the experimental drug Remdesivir, which is being supplied by a biopharmaceutical firm based in Limerick.
"We're working hard to get me all the way back ... I think I'll be back soon and I look forward to finishing up the campaign the way it was started," he said,
Speaking from a suite at the medical centre where he is based, the relaxed-looking President acknowledged there was still a degree of uncertainty about his condition.
"I'm starting to feel good," he said. "You don't know over the next period of a few days, I guess that's the real test, so we'll be seeing what happens over those next couple of days."
The message came after White House doctor Sean Conley acknowledged that while Trump was "not yet out of the woods", his medical team was "cautiously optimistic".
The remarks came after an unnamed source close to the President offered up a worrying prognosis.
"The president's vitals over the last 24 hours were very concerning and the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of his care. We're still not on a clear path to a full recovery," the source said.
Dr Conley had earlier told the press Trump "fever-free and off supplemental oxygen" having spent "most of the afternoon conducting business".
Trump’s positive outlook comes as figures close to the President continue to test positive for coronavirus. Chris Christie is the latest to announce he has Covid-19.
