DONALD TRUMP furiously asked his advisers during the 2020 presidential election how he could be losing to a "mental retard" when polls showed Joe Biden pulling away from him, according to a new book
The claim comes from Frankly, We Did Win This Election by Michael Bender, in which the author says Trump stopped a meeting in the Oval Office to express his dismay.
"How am I losing in the polls to this mental retard?" He supposedly asked his staff, as Biden closed in election victory.
In the book, Bender claims that Trump never really saw Biden as much of a threat, and decided early on not to put too much effort into attacking him.
He believed the Democrats would appoint Hilary Clinton or Michelle Obama, because Biden was "too old," the books says.
For the book, which is set to be released on August 10, Bender interviewed more than 150 people, including Trump himself at least twice during a couple of trips he made to Mar-a-Lago.
Bender says that Trump deeply regretted going in hard on Elizabeth Warren early on, because she would have been an easier opponent in the election.
He also says that the 77-year-old was convinced that Biden would be forced to pull out of the race at some point, due to his physical and mental health, and therefore pulled campaign funds from going towards attack ads.
