Dolphin rescued by gardai and coastguard after washing up on Donegal beach

GARDAI and members of the coast guard came to a dolphin's rescue this week after it washed ashore on a beach in Donegal.

Footage emerged yesterday of a number of kind-hearted individuals helping the dolphin back into the surf, after getting stranded on Killahoe Beach.

After managing to slide a sheet underneath it, six members of the emergency services lifted the  the stranded porpoise gently back to the safety of deeper water.

Garda Review shared the video on Twitter, writing: "Utterly amazing video just shot at Killahoe Beach, Co. Donegal.

"Gardai Brendan O'Connor and Sean Sharkey assisting the Mulroy Coastguard team in the return of a beached dolphin to the sea. Incredible."

An Garda Siochana retweeted the footage, saying: "There is no such thing as a normal day in the office.

"We're all in this together," they added before tagging the Irish Coast Guard.
