COLM O'GORMAN has shared the horrific onslaught of hate mail he has to deal with on a regular basis due to his activist work with Amnesty.
The executive director of Amnesty International is known for his prolific work in the passing of the same-sex civil marriage referendum in 2015 and ongoing activism for the Repeal the 8th movement.
He has shared letters, both typed and written by hand sent to him which have threatened his life and demeaned his character because of his activist work with Amnesty.
He posted one letter which dubbed him "evil" and informed he was "no longer welcome" in Ireland.
I’m an evil person now it seems and human rights don’t exist. But I suppose at least he stared with a “God be with you”, which was nice. ? #repealthe8th #ItsTime pic.twitter.com/CxbqmZbMNI

He also shared horrifying notes he received last year which called him a "muckshifter, a vile creature" and the writer said they wished to "bring on Islam who know how to deal with your type". The note finished with "get aids, you b**tard".
Mind you the “you are no longer welcome on the blessed island of Ireland” fella was considerably more polite than this charmer from last year. pic.twitter.com/awL9NtYO20

Another extremely disturbing note from one writer, 'Paddy' from Limerick, threatens O'Gorman with a "flask of boiling water" to ensure he be "celibate for life".
And who could forget Paddy from Limerick? Who has either a very good thermos or one of those little kettles that you can plug into the cigarette lighter in your car. He is a very resourceful chap. pic.twitter.com/N3oaWyJH2u

The father of two revealed that while these letters are upsetting and intrusive, he assured that he would not be intimidated by bigots and anonymous hateful writers of such letters.
Just a few reminders that Twitter didn’t invent trolling, it just made it easier and more immediate....and of course more public. But this kind of intimidation isn’t new, not by a long stretch. Shrug it off. Let them at it. We have work to do. #repealthe8th #ItsTime

Colm O'Gorman has not been the first person to suffer as a result of stance on abortion as Irish Senator Lynn Ruane shared a letter she received in October 2017 from a priest who made several threats towards her.
Arrived in the post today. Framed and all. Judas Ruane has a nice ring to it. #repealthe8th pic.twitter.com/lfJDlzrLy4
